The Insignia 0.7 cu.ft. compact microwave is designed for small spaces. At 10.2 x 13 x 17.3 inches, it’s perfect for condos, dorms, office pantries, shared spaces etc. It weighs 10 kg, so it’s not so heavy for counters. Made from metal with a stainless steel finish that really looks good, it comes in white and black, mint green and cherry red.
Though small, this microwave’s inside has enough room for proper functioning. It fits a standard dinner plate perfectly, a breakfast bowl, small popcorn bags, 2-3 coffee mugs among other things. You should know, however, that because it’s small, definitely some things won’t fit.
It has a removable glass turntable with a diameter of 10 inches.The food rotates on the turntable as it cooks.
The Insignia has a considerable menu. It comes with 6 preset options that make it very easy to use. The options include:- beverage, popcorn, dinner plate, potato, frozen vegetable and pizza.
It has a time and weight defrost that help in adjusting the heating to the setting for the best results.
There is a clock timer on the menu that is used to coordinate cooking times.
If you want to monitor your progress, the microwave has a light inside so you can view your meal as it warms.
The LED digital display is a great touch as it’s very useful when you’re viewing and using the settings.
When not in use the Echo-mode puts the microwave to standby and this saves power.
If you have a family, you will find the child safety lock useful. When set, children can not use the microwave, preventing accidents.
There is a sound on/off button – you can turn it off if you don’t like that beeping sound. You can keep the sound on though if it doesn’t bother you.
The Express Cook on the menu allows you to custom preset programs and save them on the memory. Below the button there is a list of numbers 0 to 9, you use these numbers to set your own program. If you want to use that set program regularly you then save it to the memory, and everytime you want to use that program you tap it and it works. Like the default presets, when the interval is done they go off. The Insignia microwave saves up to three programs to memory.
Performance
The 700-watt Insignia 0.7 cu. ft. compact microwave has all the basic functions. It cooks beverages, meals and popcorn fast. It also defrosts. For its size and price, you shouldn’t expect advanced or extra features.
Because of its low power voltage it’s a bit slower in cooking than the big costly microwaves. The difference, though, is not so big – it’s ignorable.
When you use the preset programs, the results are good – not under or over done. The food is usually heated to taste, the beverages too. The beauty is, you put in the beverage or meal, hit the preset button the microwave goes when the interval is done. These presets are very helpful. They save you the trouble of setting the microwave for these common meals.
Time and weight defrost functions are great. With them, the meal is not burnt and doesn’t have frozen parts after the defrosting interval. You can defrost according to the meal’s weight or time or both.

Is It Worth Buying?
The Insignia – 0.7 Cu. Ft. Compact Microwave is a great purchase if you are looking for something for regular use. It has all the functions of a standard microwave and it doesn’t take up much space because it’s rather small. It’s very good if you have limited space, just don’t like big things or if you are using a counter for your microwave.
Though it takes a bit longer than the bigger microwaves, it produces good results. For its size, functioning and price, the Insignia is definitely a good deal.
However, if you’re looking for something more advanced, more functions, features etc; you may need to add more money and get a different, probably much bigger microwave.
